Which are the scariest horror films? Ranking movies is highly subjective; your preferences will always influence your decisions. However, of all the horror films we've viewed, we considered the following to be the terrifying. 

                                     SINISTER (2012)

12 years later, Scott Derrickson's mysterious mystery remains a riveting and unsettling viewing.

Ellison Oswalt, a true crime writer, moves into a home in the imaginary hamlet of Chatford, Pennsylvania, with his wife Tracy, their 12-year-old son Trevor, and their 7-year-old daughter Ashley. Unbeknownst to his wife and children, Ellison has transferred them into the house where the Stevenson family was hanged. He plans to publish a biography on the case in order to reclaim the glory he lost when his best-selling novel Kentucky Blood was followed by two less successful books. He intends to find out what happened to 10-year-old Stephanie Stevenson, who went missing after the killings.

                     PARANORMAL ACTIVITY (2007) 

To be in anticipation and have something surprise me and get my heart racing for a few moments. I can't recall the last film that did that, but Paranormal Acivity at least had my blood pumping a few times. But, primarily, it's disturbing. Some of the night scenes might be mildly disturbing, while others would just be strange to see.

A QUITE PLACE II (2020)

A Quiet Place Part II, a nerve-racking sequel of its predecessor, extends the franchise's horrific environment while remaining true to its heart. A Quiet Place Part II, which is almost as disturbing and dramatic as the first, will have spectators on the edge of their seats.

The dramatic narrative of a family surviving in a post-apocalyptic world invaded by blind, sound-sensitive animals. The film continues up immediately after the first chapter, following the Abbott family's battle to survive reach refuge. With the death of their father, Evelyn Abbott, played by Emily Blunt, must guide her children, Regan and Marcus, through new challenges. The film includes a few new characters and builds on the monsters' mythology, raising the stakes with its intense tension and fast-paced action. The film's use of scant speech and strong suspense puts audiences on edge while exploring themes of family, survival, and perseverance. Overall, "A Quiet Place Part II" expands on its predecessor's merits, resulting in a fascinating and emotionally intense sequel.

TERRIFIED (2017)

TERRIFIED is genuinely terrifying flick! A pseudo-anthology method for aficionados of supernatural inquiry horror. This is one of the rare films in this genre that I find impressive in every way.

"Terrified" (2017) is an Argentine horror film directed by Demián Rugna that explores a sequence of odd and disturbing supernatural phenomena. Set in a neighborhood plagued by mysterious and horrific events, the film follows a group of paranormal investigators as they try to figure out what's causing the disruptions. The film blends aspects of psychological horror with supernatural horrors, resulting in an intense atmosphere full of unsettling moments and tension. With a concentration on unpleasant images and a captivating plot, "Terrified" stands out for its ability to elicit true terror while maintaining gripping suspense throughout. Its creative approach to horror, along with outstanding performances, make for a memorable and unpleasant viewing experience.

HEREDITARY (2018)

"Hereditary" is both psychologically profound and intensely unpleasant, offering a fresh spin on the horror genre with long-lasting consequences. Hereditary is dark and scary. The film is noted for its intense atmosphere and unsettling passages that elicit a profound sense of dread. Its exploration of familial sorrow and occult undertones adds layers of psychological fear, making for a profoundly unsettling experience. The combination of scary images, haunting soundtrack, and awful narrative twists contributes to the film's reputation as really disturbing and unsettling.

"Hereditary" is well worth viewing, especially if you enjoy psychological horror and atmospheric suspense. 

The film is praised for its creativity, great performances (especially Toni Collette), and ability to elicit a profound sense of dread. It's a thought-provoking experience that stays with you long after the credits have rolled, making it a standout among horror films.

If you appreciate emotionally impacting and truly frightening flicks, "Hereditary" is a must-see.
